No Season, Just Summer

My mother’s time is spring and summer, while my husband’s time is autumn and winter. So what time is left for me? Persephone spends six months of the year underground with her husband, the king of the dead, and six months on earth with her mother, the goddess of the harvest. This arrangement has been in place for nine thousand years since the deal was struck. However, when she resurfaces this spring, something is different. the land is lashed by rains, crops are growing out of season or not at all, and people are attempting to build a road through the woods, while her mother seems unable to stop them. The natural world is changing rapidly, and even the gods have lost control.

Meanwhile, Demeter is trying to regain her powers and fend off her daughter’s husband, who wants to keep her underground permanently. Persephone finally experiences a taste of freedom, joining a group of protestors. Accustomed to gazing up at the world from below, she looks down on the earth for the very first time from the treetops with activist Snow, and realizes that she has choices to make for herself. However, what will these choices mean for her mother, her husband, and for the new life inside her?

"No Season but the Summer" takes a classic myth and subverts it, exploring what happens when our oldest stories fail us and all the rules have changed. Above all, it delves into the theme of choice.
